Philipp Weber, student of Mechanical Engineering, is currently finalizing his Bachelor Thesis. He has evaluated and defined a robotic system to remotely open the door at the Ramp&Door obstacle. His concept is based on the commercially available Kinova Robotic Arm. Philipp has integrated it into the existing wheelchair, paying special attention to the safety of the pilot, who is commanding the robotic arm while sitting directly in its work envelope. Moreover, all the wheelchair’s existing functions, e.g. longitudinal seat adjustment, had to be maintained. Philipp’s solution is to use a commercially available collaborative robot by Kinova Robotics, integrate it into the race chair’s moveable seat and equip it with a customized passive end-effector, which allows to press door bell buttons and to open latched doors. The results have already been tested by our pilot Florian Hauser and will be shown to the public at CYBATHLON Experience in Nottwil on June 23rd, 2018 (Event link: https://goo.gl/oPbN6F).
HSR Enhanced will participate in the CYBATHLON EXPERIENCE 2018 that takes place on June 23rd 2018 at the Rollivision fair in Nottwil, Switzerland. Several wheelchair show races will take place. The Rollivision fair is one of the biggest wheelchair fairs in Switzerland.
We are looking for sponsors for our participation in the Cybathlon Experience 2018 and for other activities in 2018. Are you interested in supporting HSR Enhanced? Here you find further information.
Samuel Stähli and Thierry Zimmerman, students of mechanical engineering, improved the chassis and the steering drive of the Cybathlon wheelchair in a student project. They aimed at a functional sample with a better stability and maneuverability. By adapting the suspensions, the students optimized the lateral stability of the chassis. They improved the maneuverability by replacing the former linear drive by a separate drive in each wheel. This resulted in a seven times faster steering speed. Thank you, Samuel and Thierry, for your precious contribution to the team HSR Enhanced!
HSR Enhanced and its partner K/F Fashion were present at the RehaCare 2017. K/F Fashion displayed their latest product, a stylish jeans for quadriplegics. The trouser waistband is shorter in the front than in the back which makes it easier for the supporting person to transfer the patient. Furthermore, the jeans is closed by a velcro and a key ring. This makes it possible for the quadriplegic to open the jeans by themselves.
HSR Enhanced presented their team and explained to the visitors how it was possible to win at Cybathlon 2016 after only 10 months of technical development and training.

HSR Enhanced demonstrated their wheelchair in the Cybathlon Experience at the RehaCare fair 2017. As HSR Enhanced and its competitor Caterwil were on a very similar level, they delivered thrilling neck-to-neck races in every single run. We are happy that our runs were on a consistent high level during the whole event and we are very proud of our pilot Flo who delivered once again outstanding performances every day.
We say thank you to the cheering audience, the media interest and especially the Cybathlon organizers for making this experience possible!
